Solar still is a device used to obtain pure drinkable water depending on renewable energy. The principle of operation of the solar still is based on the evaporation and condensation of water the hydrologic cycle (rainfall cycle). In this study the performance of the solar stills with deferent conceptual design have been investigated the experimentations conducted under outdoors weather conditions. The theoretical investigation evaluates the enhancement possibilities of the solar still with stepped design by simulating the model in ANSYS \u2013 FLUENT 19 software. Then, the physical models were built, based on the results obtained from the simulation. The experimental part consists of constructing three solar stills: a conventional type solar still serves as a bench mark for the comparison with the other stills, two identical stepped solar stills the first without any modified and other stepped solar still with reflector or copper chopped and cooling system over glass cover. A further modification was added to the solar still with energy storage material (cellulose , carbon filter and wire copper mesh) to enhance the productivity even more. The other adding modifications were: adding magnets, black cork balls, filter balls- stirring and other modifications, to investigate the effect of design and operating parameters on the productivity of the conventional and stepped solar still. The study found out that adding the cork enhances the yield by 51.7% compared to the conventional type. Whereas, reflector on stepped still enhances the yield by 54% with comparing identical design, then add cooling of cover glass the production enhancement 425.3 %. The conventional stepped still (without any adding) of the current study produced on average (1075- 1335.7 Kg\/m3). Adding the black hydrogel balls improve the productivity of conventional solar still by 46% , 98.5% and 155.7 % depending on the level water 30 , 20, 10 mm. Adding the magnets show 136.2% improvement in the daily productivity of the solar still, compared to same designed still without the magnets. Chopped copper and Cooling the cover glass by water droplets improve the daily yield by 308%. The absorbing materials enhance the daily productivity by 121.2% , 149.3 and 375.28% for cellulose , carbon filter and wire copper mesh, respectively.
