Automatic data-driven registration adjustment of multi-source remot sensing datasets
Abstract:
Registration techniques are still considered challenging tasks to photogrammetry and remote sensing users, especially when information about error sources and distortion from the original data sensor is missing. This kind of problems has been investigated in literatures using photographs, satellite images, and recently laser scanning data with different resolution levels and from various platforms. However, most of the well-known registration approaches may lack in one or both of the following limitations: (i) dependency on user visual judgment and/or (ii) using simple mathematical models which fail to compensate the existing geometrical distortions. These limitations cause a sort of local drifts in the registered datasets. Therefore, there is a real need for local based data-driven registration operators which can be used later as a tool to define a proper refined registration model to adjust the registered datasets.
