يتولى التدريس في القسم عدد من التدريسيين المؤهلين من حملة شهادة الدكتوراه أو الماجستير في أختصاص هندسة النفط تخرج على يديهم المئات من المهندسين العراقيين والعرب،خلال العقود الخمس الماضية سواءاً في الدراسات الأولية أو العليا،وهم اليوم يشغلون مناصب فنية وأكاديمية في العديد من دوائر الدولة،والقطاع الخاص وداخل وخارج العراق.

سعى القسم بخطوات عملية بعد عام 2003 ولغاية عامنا الحالي الى تجسيرالعلاقات مع شركات نفطية عالمية كشركة توتال، وشركةCMG ،وشركة BP وشلمبرجر، وفي مختلف المجالات .
